About Us

Ian Butler who owns and runs Icarus models, in partnership with his wife Vanda, has been an aeromodeller for over 35 years. He is a member of the North Down Model Aircraft Club and is also a member of the BMFA. Over the years Ian has tried many aspects of radio control modelling from fixed wing aircraft, to helicopters, to off road cars and boats. However his passion is for Military Aircraft both single and multi engine. He currently owns and flies a Corsair, a DR1 Fokker Triplane, a Bulldog and a P61 Black Widow. He is currently building a Spitfire and has a Tigercat, a Typhoon, and a P38 Lightning waiting in the wings. (Sorry for the pun!!) Photos of all these will be on the web soon. He also really enjoys flying Electric Ducted Fan Jets and electric helicopters and he owns several.

Over the years Ian has used most makes of glow engine both 2 and 4 stroke and is now experimenting with petrol 2 and 4 strokes. He has always been a great fan of JR radio equipment starting off on 27 mHz and then progressing onto 35mHz. However he has recently completely converted to a mixture of JR and Spectrum 2.4GHz equipment, which he absolutely raves about, especially for electric flight!

Ian would be the technical expert in the shop and if he cannot give you an honest answer to a question he will certainly find out for you and call you back.

Vanda is the administration brains behind the shop. As well as being a busy housewife and mother she also runs the back office. Vanda helps out in the retail side of the shop when she can, but not being a modeller herself she is not as experienced as Ian. However with her bubbly personality and willingness to help she will still try to help you as best she can and do so with a smile!! If she cannot give you the answer you need she can always give Ian a shout or get him to call you.

Between them they aim to provide a friendly, honest, and professional service to all modellers. So give them a try and let them show you what they can do.
